The 6th International Symposium on ESG

The 6th International Symposium on the Effects of Surface Geology on Seismic Motion (ESG6) will be held on March, 2021 at Kyoto, Japan, hosted by the Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering.
ESG study is propelled worldwide by the International Joint Working Group of IASPEI (International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior) and IAEE (International Association of Earthquake Engineering) (JWG-ESG), established in 1985. The first ESG international symposium was held in 1992 at Odawara, Japan. Since then, international symposiums have been held worldwide, such as ESG2 in 1998 at Yokohama, Japan, ESG3 in 2006 at Grenoble, France, ESG4 in 2011 at Santa Barbara, USA and ESG5 in 2016 at Taipei, Taiwan, hosted by the members of the JWG-ESG.
The year 2021 will be the 10th anniversary from the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, over a quarter century from the 1995 Kobe Earthquake and over 35 years from the 1985 Michoacan Earthquake. ESG6 will focus on all issues of site effects on ground motions, together with issues related to the quantitative prediction of ground motions reflecting those effects. ESG6 will provide an opportunity to disseminate the progress of studies related to ESG during this past three decades and share ideas for future expansion of ESG study worldwide. Also, a blind prediction exercise related with the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake is planned as a special session. The organizing committee would like to welcome all of those interested in ESG study to participate in the symposium.
